Scott Brennan and his outstanding crew have done another amazing job for Legacy Studios/Durham School for Ballet & the Performing Arts. Not did Scott point me towards a successful leasing financier but he recommended unit that is perfect for our needs, he worked beautifully with the finance company and his speedy installation got the unit in on time and under budget.

All that and a bunch of nice guys too!!!!!!!

Way to go Scott! I wish I could give you way more than 5 stars!

I was impressed with how professional, responsive, knowledgable and thorough this company is. Everyone I dealt with was courteous and effective. When our AC/ Heat system failed, we were given options to repair or replace. We decided to replace the units that were then selected based on the fit and needs of the existing space and connections. The system was installed with efficiency and areas left looking nice and clean. Our new ecobee3 thermostat that sets temps for cool and heat and can be controlled with a phone ap is an improvement. Even our circuit breaker was replaced. I appreciated that someone came out the next day to follow up and make sure everything was in good working order. I was not billed until satisfaction was determined.

Excellent service at a competitive price. The service personnel are very knowledgeable and are helpful at explaining any and all service recommendations. They offer a variety of options if a system should be repaired versus replaced and walked me through the whole process. These folks are highly recommended!

Prior to selecting a company to replace the HVAC unit at my mother’s house, I did a little ‘research’ with a goal of making an informed decision for this major home update. After narrowing the search to 3, all of whom were timely in responding to my request for an estimate, I selected Alternative Aire. While their estimate was in the middle of the 3, I appreciated little things that were pointed out outside of the other 2 estimates, i.e. my mother’s house is older and had an outdated electrical box that would probably have to be replaced if we decided to sell but is fine now or how they would re-route venting in one area of the house for a better air flow. The other estimates did not mention these things at all but the others did touch on the same things like best unit to consider, things included in installation, cleaning, setting up final inspection. I just appreciated the extra detail from Alternative Aire.

While answering my questions and/or planning dates for the install, Scott and I were able to manage most details via email (even on the weekends sometimes) being mindful that I managed this process from California with my family being available for the estimate and install to let the team in. On the couple of occasions we did have to speak, I was able to catch Scott with no problems.

I have not seen the unit yet but have seen pictures and my family tells me the install went as planned, done within the day, and the heat seems to be working perfectly. Scott pointed out the issue with re-routing the vent took a little longer than anticipated but that did not change the original estimate….nice! Scott’s team came back a few days later to check the unit from the outside, he said this is routine, and did some extra caulking as things settled from the initial install.

With the city inspection completed a week or so later, all is well as we anticipate the 2 services that are included in the year to come.

While I still gave the company and Scott 5 stars because the service, etc. were really great….I was a little disappointed when I was able to tell in speaking to Scott that he had not been to the house to inspect the work himself. I asked him and he said he had not been but he is confident in the work his team leads do and does not always visit all jobs. I am ok with this, although it took a minute for me to be comfortable with that, and can’t wait to see the unit when I am home this summer.

Alternative Aire was recommended by a coworker last year when she needed to replace her HVAC system. When our heat pump started blowing cold air this winter, I knew just who to call. The receptionist Keely has a cheery disposition; our technician Curtis was prompt and explained each step of his assessment in terms that I could understand; Scott offered a set of reasonable quotes and explained the differences between each of the systems and financing options through email. On installation day the crew worked efficiently to ensure that the whole system was replaced and had a technician verify its expected functioning. I will be recommending these gentlemen and woman for quite some time.

The call was to replace my gas furnace. They provided me with a number of options for replacement and itemized exactly what they would do. They replaced my furnace within 24 hours of my “no heat” call. They provided me with a space heater temporarily. The workers were professional and respectful of my home. It is so good to work with a company that I am comfortable with and do not have to worry about how they are doing the work around my home.

I highly recommend Alternative Aire. They picked up on the 1st call and were able to work around my schedule. They confirmed their appointment twice. The technician, Enrique, was 10 minutes early and sat in his vehicle until the time of the appointment to ensure he did not inconvenience us. Enrique gets a 10 out 10 star rating. He explained everything as he went along and went the extra mile to ensure our multi damper system was running properly!

Was so glad to have found Alternative Aire on Yelp. They were the 3rd HVAC company that came to evaluate our upstairs furnace which had stopped working, was high quality but only 10 yrs old, and I expected them to start quoting me for a replacement (as the other 2 had). Their friendly rep went right to work, hooked up everything and got it running! Saved us a lot of $$ and aggravation. He was informative, great to talk with, and I learned a ton. They will back up the work, too, so if it fails again they will come back for no additional charge. It was such a great experience, I can’t recommend them enough.

We had used two different HVAC companies trying to fix a reoccurring problem with hour AC unit in the attic when we finally called Alternative Aire. The only reason I’m not giving 5 stars is that we haven’t had the work done yet, but I wanted to say how thorough they were on the estimate. The person who came out gave such a great assessment, explained a lot of the problems we’d been having in the house, and gave a clear recommendation on what we needed. He didn’t try to push us or oversell. We definitely plan to use them to replace our heating/cooling system.

I was very pleased with the thorough manner in which Scott analyzed our house to determine the correct unit to meet our needs. The removal of the old equipment and duct work plus installation of new duct work and unit went smoothly. They cleaned up the area before leaving.

Alternative Aire goes beyond what most companies will do to help a customer. My HVAC died and the owner explained to me the pros and cons of repair versus replace. And for the record, this was the HVAC system that they fixed 7 years ago after another company told me I had to replace it then. Thanks to them, I got 7 more years out of this system. But this time, it did need replacing. They helped me with finance questions as well as an PSNC rebate. I’ve never met a company that was so helpful. And now, my house is warm and the new system is noticeably more efficient. Thanks Alternative Aire!!!

I think you all do great work but every year we have the same thing: the filters need to be replaced but that’s not “noted” in our file, as we’ve been told it was, and so an extra trip is needed. A extra trip, an additional invoice, etc. It seems easy enough to get this little bit of logistics right.

Everything that another company would consider “extra” was built into the price. Thermostat, 16″ ducting, CO detector. And Alt. Aire’s orice was much less for the same gas pack. Work was done in a few hours and is great.everything

Honesty, knowledge, integrity and fairness are the backbone of this company. Scott has come to my rescue more than once. Went above and beyond. We received a new compressor at our place of business. Alternative Aire kept us in the loop with delivery and installation. If you are looking for a HVAC provider, look no further than Alternative Air.

We were in a desperate way with our upstairs AC. We had worked with another firm who installed the wrong size coil with shoddy connections to our compressor, which of course, leaked.

We called Alternative Air. They came right over, diagnosed the problems and repaired or replaced the faulty equipment.

The Alternative Air folks are honest and reliable. I would readily recommend them to anyone.

Picked Alternative Aire out of the masses of HVAC companies doing business in the area based on customer reviews and the fact that are a smaller, locally owned company. Needed quite a bit of work done and required several visits. Had one rocky patch in the midst of the process, but Scott stepped right up, admitted fault, and rectified the problem ASAP. Honestly the service, price and customer service was phenomenal. Originally they fixed the unit and the technician said he doubted it would last long and we will deduct this cost if you need a new unit in the near future. Well it died 3mdays later and they came out right away to replace my unit and zone the house. They even brought a window unit free of charge for my toddler’s room since it would be a day till they could get started. They also has great payment plans and great rebates for cash purchases. I can’t more highly recommend Scott and Alternative Air.

The service was excellent. I am disappointed that the motor for the external fan of the AC unit had to be replaced less than two years since the purchase of the new AC system for my home. One of the criteria I used for purchasing this AC system was its reliability and longevity. I appreciated the discount to compensate for this early malfunction of the motor.

He came out to service my air conditioning ,which he did, but also he redid some of the settings on my ecobee thermostat so that my heat runs more efficiently next winter. The compressor -heat strip settings needed adjustment. The heat strips now will come on after 20 minutes of the compressor running, if it has’t warmed my house. That way I will not pay for the compressor to run and run trying in very low temps to warm my house.

Great company and great service providers

After being told multiple times my HVAC had issues I finally was referred to ALT air. Danny came out and quickly resolved the problem at minimal costs compared to others saying I needed to replace my unit. Since then I only use alternative air and refer all my friends to them. They take the time to explain problems and how to avoid others. Great service and their prices are very reasonable.

My A/C went out on July 30, 2015. Not an ideal time of the year to be without A/C! I sought out a repair company in Durham, and came across Alternative Aire. I read many of the reviews and decided to try them out. The appointment process was extremely easy and all done online. I suggested a time and received an immediate response from Keely indicating that I had been rescheduled for the first available appointment the following day (July 31st). I also received a text message confirmation. As someone who spends a great deal of time online, I found this to be very convenient.

Enrique arrived a little earlier than scheduled (a welcome surprise!) and was extremely helpful. He diagnosed the problem immediately and had the solution ready. It was a very reasonably priced fix and done quickly. My invoice was sent by email immediately. Last night was much more pleasant than the night before!

I will certainly be using Alternative Aire for all my heating and air needs going forward.

Enrique was incredibly professional, efficient, and effective — and our air conditioning is working fantastically now! He explained everything he was doing as he went (even drawing diagrams so I understood how the A/C worked and where our problems were). He also shared pricing for everything as he went, confirming that I was comfortable with the costs rather than just give me total at the end. I would highly recommend Enrique and Alternative Aire.

Awesome job for the price! Simply the best A/C company in Triangle!!

After my HVAC unit stopped working properly I contacted two other highly reputable companies to come out and test the system, both reached the same conclusion that I needed a new system. Now if your like me after hearing two times that you need a new system from trusted technicians your inclined to put in a new system.

But I decided to get one more opinion before making such a huge investment and boy did that payoff big time. Alternative Aire came out and immediately established that I did not need a new system. The technician patiently explained every step of the process and what was needed to get the system up and running. After replacing a faulty capacitor, adding refrigerant along with actually cleaning the coils not just running water over them the system is back up and running like new.

Thanks again to all the Alternative Aire staff, especially the technician who repaired the system…honesty, quality and great service for a fair price…simply the best.

PS The reviews really helped me to choose Alternative Aire so I applaud all who gave previous reviews before me.

Danny from Alternative Aire is a very honest person. He fixed my downstairs air-conditioner, checked my upstairs unit, also fixed gas leakage. He spent 1.5 hours here but only charged me $155.

Although AA had no openings for repair the day I call, they were able to squeeze me in. I’m the administrator of a family care home with elderly residents, and making sure my ladies are comfortable and I am in compliance with State and county regulations essential. Thank goodness AA was able to get my ladies back home to a cool house that day.

Alternative Aire inspired me to write my first Yelp review! Absolutely great. Came in less than a day (when it was 95 degrees out!), fixed capacitor unit on AC, took the time to clean it and checked coolant pressure (no problems there). Didn’t try and sell me anything I didn’t need. Totally trustworthy and honest feel, total pros with a small company feel. These are the hard working honest folk you’ve always heard about but never found, can’t recommend them enough.

I’m really struggling here, guys. The first time I called Alternative Aire, scheduling was a breeze, the tech was prompt, and service was great. The second time, you forgot my appointment and we had to reschedule. Once we rescheduled, service was great again albeit half an hour late. At that appointment, we decided that a part needed to be ordered and you would call once it was in stock. 12 days later, I call. “Wait, what? What do you need? We didn’t close out your ticket? Okay, we’ll pick up the part on the way to your house…” Once again, you forgot about me. Service was great today but, for the second time in a row, nearly 40 minutes late. Great service once at the job site, problems with being on time, and forgetful staff. Honestly, I’m a little disappointed.

After several phone calls and e-mails, I was rescheduled for the following day. I appreciate the promptness of the services of Curtis Taylor. When I got hoe from the hotel he was working on my outside unit. I appreciate all the prompt service and the fact that Curtis is an awesome person who takes care of my a/c during such hot weather. I appreciate him and therefore you. I know you are very busy as Lauren continues to say someone will get back to me regarding replacing my unit. I have yet to hear from anyone though. Mom says Scott has sent her emails but that isn’t doing me any good since she’s in Myrtle Beach and I’m in Raleigh. Curtis said it’ll be 2 1/2 weeks before I’ll be getting a new unit. Thanks for your help with me staying cool.

Very impressed with Alternative Aire, they came a month ago or so and did a great diagnostic of the system compared to another estimate i got, showed up at the time they said and completed the repair. Just recently system wasn’t performing properly, they sent a tech out looked at the system, found the problem and made it right with no charge, would highly recommend this company.

Alternative Aire and the gentleman (Curtis) they had service my unit were phenomenal!

The company was really great about confirming our scheduled appt. in the days prior via text and email. That made it very easy so we weren’t playing phone tag or just being unresponsive like other companies.

Curtis arrived for the appt. ahead of schedule and was extremely friendly and professional. He quickly diagnosed a dormant evaporator coil that needed attention within my condo. That made my unit blow really cool and clean air 🙂 Without my asking, Curtis also suggested we use his ladder to get on the 2nd story roof of the condo to check the exterior unit with his gauges. On a 95+ degree day, I was happy to see that this was all in a days work in servicing my A/C.

I will certainly be using Alternative Aire in the future and look forward to spreading the word!

Great visit. Your tech asked questions, listened carefully, explained what he would look for, spent a lot of time measuring and adjusting and reported what he had found and done. The upstairs, which had been running a little warm, is doing better. When we have cooler weather, I’ll call again for more precise adjustment of the inside coil temperature for upstairs.

This is our second time using AA because we were so pleased with the two gentlemen who serviced our HVAC several months ago. The most thorough and informative of any of the businesses who came to the house to give an estimate. Unlike reps from other companies, he looked at the entire house–the size, windows, type of insulation–asked lots of questions, and had an excellent explanation for what services we needed. When I received the estimate, it included 3 choices and estimates, along with a clear explanation of what the service would include and a load report on the entire house.

Initial HVAC vendor (uses three letter acronym and does plumbing too) charged $99 to tell me I needed a “hard start kit”. They went on to say that this kit would be about $400 bucks and that they couldn’t guarantee me that the part would fix anything. That conversation was followed with a recommendation to get a new unit. However, the technician couldn’t even provide a rough order of magnitude estimate of the cost. He advised that I would need to talk with someone in their sales department. I paid the $99 for the service call and close this transaction. After reviewing Angie’s List, I found Alternative Aire. Service was professional, prompt and uber nice. the total price was $170 bucks for service charge, labor and part. Based on price and service delivery, I strongly recommend you DO NOT USE ARS… Sole interest seems to be in increased profit margin vs. great customer service.

Fantastic response, value, service and professionalism! As always, the check up was done to perfection as Danny explained everything, including recommendation of essential part that was going bad. I trust his judgement as this is the first time that anything other than a check up has been needed on my condenser since originally installed, thanks to his expertise and changing filters religiously every three months. In the meantime, another neighbor called for recommendation as they had heard about my great service and the others in the neighborhood who have been using this company. This company has high standards and is very customer service oriented.

Thank you for working me into your schedule for yesterday. Mom was very impressed with the man you sent to check my air conditioning. My sister and I came in from grocery shopping and he was very nice. When I asked for a business card he had run out. He was very informative and I appreciated him and everyone that helped me get my air fixed. Being a brittle diabetic having air condition is imperative. Again I and my family were very impressing with the person you got my air conditioning working. I believe the owner was in the background when I talked with the secretary when I needed my air fixed. I want to thank him very much. Both Mom and my sister use One Hour in Myrtle Beach and that is how I ended up with Alternative Aire.

Knowledgeable & helpful. As the recommendation was to do nothing — as opposed to putting in a new system — the advice was clearly to our (the customer’s) advantage, with Alternative Aire at least temporarily losing a sale.

For that reason, we obviously cannot comment on the work done (none was done), but when it is time, Alternative Aire will be at the head of the list when we get quotes.

Yes, I would recommend Alternative Aire to a friend. I give an 8 because no work was actually done. A 10, at least from me, would need to be from a project that included work actually done. A “10” for honesty, that is sure.

Danny came out and got the HVAC unit working by cleaning out the motor / fan and greasing it. As always, he was very courteous and described what was going on. Great service as usual.

Danny arrived at my house early, around 10:30 and left around 11, but I noticed that the bill said time was 1.5 hours. I don’t think that you charge by the hour, but though it was odd.

We had Alternative Aire replace all the ductwork under our +30 year old home. It was a new construction when we bought the house and from day one I knew the system leaked. Over the years I tried to reduce the leaks but finally decided to have things fixed for good. Scott came out, measured the downstairs, took down information on the heating unit we had and listened to our concerns about heating/cooling. He designed a system that would best meet our needs and fit our heating/AC unit capabilities. A crew of 6 showed up on time, worked quickly to remove the old ductwork and debris, were respectful of our property and cleaned up. When the guys had to come in the house, they donned disposable booties so as not to track dirt. Once the house temperature normalized, we noticed that the living room was warmer than it had been and the laundry and half bath were no longer hot. Perfect! In retrospect it was a good decision to have the ductwork replaced. The whole system in better insulated and sealed and I noticed as they were removing the debris, a lot of the plastic in the old flexible ductwork had cracked and crumbled after +30 years. The other thing I liked is Scott didn’t try to oversell. He listened to what we wanted, told us what was possible, and offered up what was needed without padding the quote.

I’m so glad a friend recommended Alternative Aire to me. They came out and found problems that my previous HVAC guy didn’t fix, and I’ve used them to install a zone system as well as perform routine maintenance. Poor Curtis has been out 3 times in the past month to fix our wiring after a critter chewed through it, and he’s been great. Curtis is always friendly and professional. He’ll call if he is running early to make sure it’s alright to come by, and he even wears booties in my home so nothing is tracked inside. I love the fact that I get a reminder text and email before an appointment. I’ve been a happy customer for a year now, and I look forward to being one for many years to come.

Though swamped with heat loss customers, Scott came out the day after I called for an estimate on a replacement system. He impressed me as living up to his reputation of honesty, knowledge and integrity. He answered all my questions thoroughly and explained a bit of his business philosophy that paralleled my own as a business owner. Estimates were sent promptly, with three main options plus some optional tweaks we had discussed. The prices were competitive, and the last of the 13 SEER’s saves a lot of money. scott put aside other work he had to make sure my new system got put in just in time for winter. his crew was friendly and informative and were receptive to my overseeing their work and asking questions. my home is a single ranch approx 1500 sq feet. I was quoted from other companies for dual stage heat systems. Scott suggested this was overkill as the house is on the smaller side and the cost savings were negligible compared to the initial overhead, and i agree. my amana APG13, is quiet and warm and so far i am satisfied with the work.

When the technician came out, he couldn’t find anything wrong with the system. He was very nice and very helpful. He told me that the $85 fee would be good for 30 days if the system acted up again so long as it wasn’t on a weekend. After he left that Wednesday, we had no problems until Saturday morning. We froze Saturday and Sunday and miraculously, the system has been working fine since. Our hopes is that the system will stay working well from here on out.

Danny was able to come earlier than scheduled. He was very polite and patiently answered my questions and concerns. He didn’t mind my following him around to see what was being done–though claustrophobia made me have to draw the line at the crawl space. After all, there’s nothing wrong with a consumer gaining some knowledge and understanding about the workings of the system in their home. Danny was later joined by Curtis who was equally as nice. They seemed to enjoy working together.

I usually cringe when it’s time to service my HVAC system as most of the service people just try to sell you things you don’t need or can’t afford—rather than just focus on maintenance. Not so with your service people. It was a very refreshing experience. The price was also very affordable. No gouging there. Scott came to my home within hours of my call to evaluate my furnace and give an estimate for replacement. He gave me several choices and a quote for a high efficiency furnace that is comparable in price to the lower efficiency units I received a quote for from another company. In addition, he retested my existing unit to confirm that there was no carbon monoxide leakage. The other company told me my unit was unsafe for use. I am grateful for his willingness to retest and make sure it is safe to use this unit until we replace it. Friendly and helpful as always! Only reason I didn’t provide 5 stars is that the technician was 40 minutes late when I was the first appointment of the day, which makes a big difference when you are planning to get to work. I was given a discount because of the delay, and will not hesitate to use them again. I’ve used them in an emergency, and they were very good about showing up on time and communicating about arrival times.

Not only did the representative come early, he did an excellent job explaining his process and the condition of my HVAC to me. Alternative Aire was able to come to my house quickly and solve my A/C problem. It turned out to be a simple wire disconnection due to poor wiring by the builders of the house. Awesome job overall. The workers were fast, friendly, courteous, clean and had good communication. The foot covers to come in the house was an added touch. The price was the lowest I could find. They are up to date with professional wireless and paperless work orders. The house is blowing strong cold air now, which is a big improvement. The added touch of a programmable thermostat was nice, too. When the old air conditioner quit the day before the job Alternative Aire came out and fixed it at no additional charge. I would strongly recommend them to my neighbors.

Our AC lost its freon, and after consulting with Alternative Aire and others, we decided to replace everything. Considering the time of year was when we really needed the AC, and everyone was up to two weeks out for an install, it was looking rough. But they found a hole in their schedule and got us back in comfort within 24 hrs of signing the contract. We had a problem, and Alternative Aire made it go away, in just a day.

I have been using Alternative Aire for 4+ years now. I started using this company from a co-worker who referred me, i have found out that the best service comes from personal references which was such in this case.

I am very pleased with Alternative Aire and love the fact that they are very cost conscious. I get my system checked 2x per year. Also love the fact that if something is wrong with the unit, they will nurse it as long as they can.

I needed a new blower motor last summer, and called another group because I had their magnet on my fridge and they could fit me that day. Big mistake – they put in the wrong motor and I’ve had trouble ever since. Friends recommended Alternative Aire and after talking to Scott, I felt confident that they could help. As usual, the service we received in our annual spring A/C check was superb. Danny has been maintaining our unit since we moved into our house 9 years ago, and we literally ask for him each time because he’s the best. He is courteous, professional, and above all, a master engineer in heating and air conditioning. The knowledge and experience he brings give us total confidence that our air conditionar and furnace are good hands.

Alternative Aire is, without a doubt, our only choice in heating and air service providers.

I really appreciated Luke’s (service tech) expertise and attention to detail. He explained to me in detail the problem and my options before proceeding with the work. He told me about the projected future life of my units which helped me make my decision and will help with planning for future replacements.

Scott, by the way, was very responsive to my initial call on Saturday morning and associating when Luke would arrive.

Before choosing Alternative Aire for an annual air conditioner tune-up, I called around to several places to see about their prices and procedures. Alternative Aire had the best price. That alone could make for sort of a risky decision, but I got a good sense from Scott when I spoke with him on the phone about what needed to be done. Later that evening (the day I first called), he sent a very long and detailed response to a question I sent by email. That’s when I knew we were going with the right company.

When Danny came out to do the tune-up, he was professional, friendly, and helpful. He let me watch what he was doing for my own edification and answered many questions along the way. As he disassembled various parts of the machine, he noted to me several spots that looked good for their age, a couple of parts that had obviously been replaced recently (we just bought this house, so we weren’t sure what condition the conditioner was in), and a few places that needed to be cleaned. He also found one part that needed to be replaced and was able to show me with his device (a voltmeter maybe? I’m not sure…) how it was failing. This was nice because it helped me make a more informed decision about whether it was actually worth replacing (it was) or whether I could wait another year or two. He had the replacement part in the van and switched it out right away.

All in all I’m very pleased with Alternative Aire and would happily recommend them. The price is right, the personality is right, and the service is right.

I have been doing business with Scott and Alternative Aire since they first started and I have been more than satified with their promptness, quality of work and professionalism in doing the work.

I have multiple HAVAC units at two locations in Raleigh and I have never been left waiting for more than 24 hours whether it was a small repair, replacement or complete renovation of an office suite that required HVAC, vents, smoke alarms, duct work etc.

I would recommend Alternative Aire to anyone who had second thoughts. In this age where one gets many promises about what companies are going to do for you and then you never hear back, Scott and his crew deliver time and again.

Scott and his team are fantastic! They were very honest, knowledgeable and professional all while completing the job in a very clean and quick manner. Scott even added an additional duct, as he recognized there were not enough put into the size of our home to begin with. Our cooling bill is less and the system is a dream.
